THE SENTENCE.
(BY TELEGRAPH.) i (UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION.) . , ... * Dxjnbdin, This Day. Wain was brought up and sentenced this morning. The male prisoner pleaded that the Judge would be lenient on his wife's account. *The Judge refused to reserve the point raised by Deniston, saying that medical evidence was Absolutely clear. In addressing the prisoner he said it concurred with verdict which had been returned by any jury m any part of the colonj. Whilst giving weighs to the jury's recommendation to mercy, the Judge pouted out that if the prisoners had by their act contemplated the child's death, they were guilty of murder. He thought the prisoners were animated towards the unfortunate child by a wicked evil spirit. He sentenced each to seven years' penal servitude.
