San Francisco, Jan. 27. Summary per Zealandia to Sydney. The steamship Alameda, of the new Australian line, arrived here on Jan. 23, Her log shows her time from Sydney to San Francisco, including stoppages at A uck an! and Honolulu to be 22 days 15 hours. A movement is on foot in New York and Philadelphia to publicly manifest American sentiments in behalf of Irish self-government by a mass mee ing, resolutions, and an appeal to the British people. It is asserted that the movement is distinctly American, h iving no connection with the Irish-American League. Grave charges against the United States Consul, Green Baum, at the Samoan Islands, were forwaaded on by the steamer Alameda, which arrived at San Francisco on Jan. 23. .They were sent immediately to Secretary of State Bayard at Washington, together with a petition for the Consul’s removal, signed by Americans doing business there. In addition to charges of extortion, over indulgence in liquor, and conduct not becoming his office, there are others of a more serious nature. The Hon. Mr Randolph, one of the New South Wales legislators, who arrived in San Francisco ,by the steamer Alameda, will remain in that city until his colleague, Sir Alexander Stewart arrives by the steamer Mariposa about the 21st of February. Tin se gentlemen are interested in the proposed cable line direct, from. San Francisco to Sydney and New Zealand, via Honolulu, New Caledonia and the Sandwich Islands. It is asserted-in San Francisco that*if the Company establishes its line, Mackay, the Bonanza capi talist, with Janus Gordon Bennett, of the New York Herald, has promised to meet the Compare}' on a fair and reasonable basis. It is rumored that Germany i 3 making overtures for the partition of the Samoan Islands. The proposals, it is said, include an allotment to England of Savan, the largest island of the group, Germany ing Upotu with the port of Apia, and the United States getting the eastern islands including Tuitalia.
