NOMINATION’S FOR THE HIBERNIAN SPORTS.
The forthcoming Hibernian Sports promise to be the most successful ever held in the district, and favoured wiih fine weather there is sure to be a large attendance at this chief centre of attract!in on St. Patrick’s Day. A meeting T of the Committee was held in the South Star Hotel on Saturday evening, when tha secretary, Mr Ward, was mu aged for over an hour receiving nominations. As will be seen from the appended list of nominations, there are 28 entered for the principal event, the St, Patrick’s Handicap ; 25 for the mile, and 22 fur the halfmile. This satisfactory result has far exceeded the Committee’s most sanguine expectations, and goes to show that the Society’s sports stiff maintain the reputation as the chief athletic meeting jn the year. It is to be hoped that few will back out of accepting, in order that there may be good fields and plenty of competition in tbe various events. The hinJicappers are Messrs W. B. Girling, M. O’Neill, W. Hunter, J. Lefthy, W. Morrison, and P. Meehan, and as efforts to do justice to all and favour none were successful last year, we feel sure that the great majority of the competitors will be satisfied with their decisions. If competitors can induce “ their sisters, combs, and aunts ” to put in an appearance, the gathering will be even better attended thin was expected. The handicaps will be declared on Thursday eveniug, aud published in our issue of Friday. The following are the nominations St. Patrick's Handicap. —T J. Manarch, Peebles, A, Redwood, G, Hood, F.
