OTAGO.

The news from the Otago Diggings is still continuing most promising. The weekly escort was expected at Dunedin on the 14th instant, with upwards of 15,000 ounces of gold. The Friends and Thames, with cattle; and the Brothers and Flying Cloud, with sawn timber, had all arrived at Otago after favourable passages. It was reported in Dunedin that a fresh rush had set in from Melbourne for the Otago diggings. All the vessels that had arrived from thence were full of passengers. not be surprised if our mails arrive here on the evening of the 23rd, or morning of the 24th instant. A fine nugget of gold was found at the Waitahuna Flat, and said to be the larges t that has yet been discovered at the Otago Gold Fields. It weighs twelve ounces some pennyweights, and is really a fine specimen of the auriferous wealth of that province. It was bought by the Bank of New Zealand; and it is to be forwarded to the Great International Exhibition of 1862. Its value is £52 12s. The Lachlan Diggings, Sydney, had proved a failure. Many of the miners who had taken their passage from Melbourne, were selling their £4 ticket for 15s.
