MOTUEKA DISTRICT lOOF, M,U. The annual meeting of the M >tueka District Lodge of Oddfellows, Manchester Unity, was held in the Odd fellows’ Hail, Motueka, on Tuesday last. Grand Master J A Askew occupied the chair and Deputy G M. C Page the vice chair. The following delegates were present . —Loyal Motueka Lodge : P P.G M’s Wm. Boyce, Hy. Rumbold, P.V Jas. Satheiley and P.G. C J Boyes ; Riwaka Good In ten tion : P.P G.M’s E~ W James, Jas. Cook, and Alex Inglis ; South Star, Dovedale : P.P G.M’s E W Win and N' Win ; Takaka : P.P G.M’s J Rose, and W Humphries. The Correspond mg Secretary, Chas - Fry, and Tyler, H v Cate, were also present.

The balance sheet of the . District Fund, duly audited, was read and adopted. It was resolved .that the Secretaries of all lodges be notified that all assets belonging to the lodge must appear in the half yearly balance sheet. Resolved, that the G M, D P.G.M, delegates and Tyler be paid according to scale.

P P.G.M. H Everett and P G SB Canavan were appointed District Auditors for the ensuing year.

The Corresponing Secretary was instructed by resolution to take the District Solicitor’s advice as to whether it is necessary for the Trustees to have a mortgage indemnity or a 'workers compensation for accident policy from all mortgagers ; and that he have power to act on such advice.

Resolved that the CS. levy the amount required at each half year in accordance with the percentage table supplied by the Actual y for the Funeral Fund.

Resolved that E Parker be paid the usual fee for taking care of the pall. P P.G.M’s E W Win and Chas Fry were elected delegates to represent the Motueka District at the next Movable Committee meeting, to be held in Napier in March next, and that they b : paid the usual fee. In the event of e ther of the delegates being unable to attend P P.G.M. E W James was appointed to act, Re.-olved that the C.S. be appointed Lodge Book Examiner.

Resolved that it be a recommendation to all lodges in this district to appoint stewards and that they be respectfully requested to act in accordance with the rules.

Resolved that the £”36 advanced by the Loyal Motueka Lodge at the deaths of the late Bros. J Thorn, (who joined the order in 1864) and S Eginton (who joined in ] 850) be repaid

It was resolved that the widows of the two deceased brothers be recipients of the Widow and Orphans Fund In connection with the foregoing, P.PG.M. Wm Boyce said he thought the U S should be empowered to pay the wid nv and orphans benefit upon receipt of the proper form and not to have to wait for the half yearly meeting. . bold, E Wm, and A Inglis were elected an Executive Committee to conduct the business at the July meeting A report regarding the solvency of the Takaka Lodge was received from the Actuary. It was explained that if a lodge went below the percentage required by law the District had power to reduce the benefits or raise the contributions. Bro Rose (Takaka) attributed the state of affairs to an extraordinary run of sickness and consequent heavy call upon the funds of the lodge ; also, to the low rate of interest that obtained for Lodge capital ‘ v The lodge was now on a much better footing and rapidly getting into a good position.
