We give a reminder of the Motueka Swimming Club’s Sports on Tuesday next and entertainment in the Institute Hall in the evening. The first race starts at 2p m. Liberal prize money is offered and good entries have been received. Is Dan Kelly Dead ? Dr. Fitchett’s story of the Kelly Gang takes rather a humerous turn in the February issue of “Life,” which is just to hand In this number, ex Superintendent Sad leir, who led the police, and Sergeant Steel who actually captured Ned Kell v give their own accounts of the pursuit and capture ; and there is other cor respondence, including a letter signed “Dan Kelly, in which the writer indig nantly denies that he was killed at Glenrovvan, and adds, “ Ned only said that so that I could get away ; I am still living and well ” Side by side with the Kelly Gang is another of the adventures of Captain Hayes, the notorious South Seas buccaneer, whom Albert Dorrington is certainly making an attractive scamp- A gem of a story in this number is contributed by a New Zealand writer, Miss Jessie Mackay who, in “The Gossamer Madam ” displays a charming touch and an intimate knowledge of the period of which she writes. There are other first class stones, and an exceptionally good set of special articles and sketches, includ ing a finely illustrated review of the progress of air ships up to date. As an instance of somewhat belated honesty on the part of a book borrower it may be noted (states the Christchurch Press J that a gentleman* a few days ago, received a book lent by him in 1891. In the majority of cases books lent never return, but in this case the one referred to came back “after many days.”
