NASEBY V. RANFURLY. At Ranfurly, 19th December, -1914. Almost perfect weather conditions favoured the cricketers last Saturday —it was calm though fairly dull. The length of the grass was largely responsible for the smallness of the scores. Ranfurly won the toss and elected to field; so Drake and Beechey opened Naseby's innings. Both looked like making runs until, with the score at 29, Beechey (11) spuoned a simple ball and so wps out; Drake batted well, reaching 34 before he was out l.b.w. to McNeile. His was a good and merry innings, marred only by a risky " upper cut" through the slips in the early part. Fraser was .the only other batsman to make' anything of a score, and his 14 was got by cautious play. I e rest of the innings was a procession and closet? for 86. The bowling honors were divided between M'Neile, Murray and Johnston. Ranfurly then went to the wickets, and their two opening batsmen were | extremely cautious, so that when the first wicket fell for 16 runs they had been at the wickets for over half-an-hour It is a noticeable failing of Ranfurly batsmen that thay all draw awav "to leg— a regrettable one too D. Murray was top score with 21 a lengthy stay for his score. Hodjrins (7) gave the beat exhibition of battine ttmugh his score does not Peem to warrant such a statement. The innings was unevf ntfal until the last man oarne in: then Johnston' and he made • good stand, and the last wicket produced 26 runs. * Drake and Beechey divided the bowling honors. The pitch was not in good order* one end was bumpy and the other the reverse, and the ball at times hardly rose after pitching on the mat During the adjournment an enjoyable afternoon tea was dispensed.
