Mr Fisld is a successful runholder in the Gisborne district. Recently he visited the Old Country and in conjunction with Dr Chappie, M.P , the High Commissioner and other N.Z. gentlemen interested m the frozen meat trade went into the question of handling our produce at tbe Lobdon docks. They found that those handling it "made a good thing out of commissions and that the facilities provided do not allow the meat especially to be placed on the market* in the best condition. For instance, rough handling caused a number of the leg bones to get broken and these were sold at a reduction of l-21b over the whole carcase, making a good "picking" for the purchaser. In the barges again the top carcases got wet with sea Water and numerous carcases are sold at a reduction for this reason. ADd there are numerous ways in which the trade is manipulated for the benefit of those at th'e , importing end. On the wharf, again, there was no si'.elter from rain. They made strong representations to . the port authorities, who promised an improvement in their methods. He believes that by the goods being properly placed on the markets a rise in the price of stock would result, and has great faith in Bristol as a future market. During his stay at Home hie was askedto judge the shpep at Ash worth, and incidentally imported some stud stock for his Gisborne property. | Those visiting Ranfurly sport 3 can obtain refreshments at Walkers.--See advt. i Mrs YValker, Ranfurly, advertises ] for a strong girl to assist in house- \ Work. 1 £ The Ranfurly CaleJonian Society r . have made special efforts to cater for 1 patrons of their concert on 28th inst., a Leading Dunedin entertainers have i 'been engaged, and everything possible t done to ensure a good programme. e A. list cf handicaps for the Wai- s piata sports on Boxing Day will be j * found in this issue, ' v ■ . r
