MINERS' ASSOCIATION.
The quarterly meeting of the Kyeburn District Miners' Association was he'd in the usual place on Saturday evening last. ' " MINUTES. . The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. delegate's report. The Chairman- (Mr. Thomas Forgie) who gratuitously acted in the capacity of delegate at. the-Milling -Conference held" in Dunedin in February last, gave in bis report, the substance of which has already appeared in the press. In reply to Mr. Morris, whoaskedwhy a miner did not occupy the chair at the Con-ference,-the delegate replied that Mr. Werner was asked to take the chair, but that gentleman decliued, so as to leave himself free to deal with other matters ; and in letting their choice fall upon Mr. Mackenzie he | thought they had done wisely, as they found him (.-.Jr. Mackenzie) very able, very useful, i and very much in sympathy with themselves.' The delegate also spoke in highly eulogistic terms of Mr. Werner (Lovvburii). On the motion of Mr. Moses Brown, the delegate was awarded a hearty vote of ! thanks for his services, and expenses to the amount of 12s for the use of hall, etc., were passed for payment. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was then read, consisting of a circular from the Farmers' Union, re° questing the Association to bring certaiu matters before their representative ; a letter from Mr. W. Christie, one of the Farmers' Union, suggesting that the Miners' Association amalgamate with the Farmers' Union ; and a letter from Mr. W. H. Smith, rubberstamp maker, Dunedin. Sympathy was expressed with the farmers and their grievances, but it was decided that consideration of the matter be deferred for theprese it. In reply to Mr. Smith's-letter, the secretary was, on-the motion of Mr. W. C. Parker, seconded by Mr. A. Beer, instructed to order a rubber stamp for the Association. RESUMPTION OF MR. M'CREADY's PERPETUAL LEASE. Re the re umption of the above lease, Mr. John Parker moved, and Mr. John Brown, Little Kyelmrn, seconded : - That, seeing the delay that has taken place, - and that, since the petition was got up in June last the Association lias nob taken any action, the Secretary be instructed to communicate with the Minister of Lands with the "view of bringing the matter to an early issue. ASSAY OFFICE. * A loug discussion took place on the subject of an assay office, the establishing of a gold purchasing agency, or other means whereby a better prise might be obtained for gold, but as no feasible scheme was educed the subject was ultimately shelved till some future occasion. OCCUPATION LICENSES. This subject was also taken up, but no motion brought forward, pending the decision of the Warden. The meeting then closed with the usual vote of thanks to the Chair.
