NASEBY PUBLIC SCHOOL.

I he adjourned monthly meeting of the abo?e Committed was. held on Thursday, 12th instant. Present—Messrs G. A. Wilson, (Chairman), Rev J. M'Cosli Smith, W. H ; Ash, J. H. Woodhill, and H. Anderson. A circular .was read from the Education Board, which showed that the Committee's yearly allowance would be reduced from £7O to £52. : A long, conversational discu sion then ensued about the finances of the School. The Committee while regretting that their allowance should have been so much reduced, was of opinion that, as most of the important works in connection with the school had been executed, they would be able to manage to pay contingencies, provided parents would pay for stationery and fuel. To help to assist to defray the expenses of supplying pens, ink, coals, &c.; it w a < resolved to issue a circular to parents, asking them to contribute periodically a small amount. [We note that the Committce of the Lawrence High School are adopting the same course.] : The"advisability of enforcing the compulsory clauses of the act was then considered.. It was decided to allow the matter to stand over until it had been ascertained whether the Minister would allow the police to undertake the delivery of summonses in connection with the compulsion. In response to a request by the Committee, the master forwarded a memo, of the average attendance of the childrea in each classroom. From which it appeared that the school was much in need of a pupil teacher, to assist in the infants' room. It was mentioned that if the average attendance could be increased from 165 to 180, the school would be entitled to two pupil teachers, and would then have a staff of five teachers, instead of three as at present The belief was expressed that the largest portion of the salary of a female pupil teacher of the lowest, rank (namely £25 per annum)

could be raised loyally* It was tlieh resolved tjiat the Secretary should wne to the Bard. asking what portion it would contribute towards tin- salary of a fomnle pupil ti-dflier --f the lowest rank if the Cmumittee*underuti>k to raise a por tion locally. Several accounts were passed for pigment and the Committee then adjourned.
