MEETING OF CREDITORS.

The first meetiig of creditors in the bankrupt estate of J. Cormick, St Bathans, was held at the Court House, Naseby, on Monday last, at noon. The Clerk of the District Court presided. Three creditors were present. The bankrupt was put into the box, and was sworn and examined by the Clerk of the Court. The examination was conducted at considerable length by the Clerk, the creditors not being calkd on to do or say anything. In answer to the questions put, the bankrupt stated that ho believed that his property was worth quite what he stated in the schedule filed. He beli-ved that if allowed to remain in possession, he would b.' able to pay all his creditors in full by Christmas. Mr Ewing on being asked a question by the Clerk, said he could not see what was the drift of this examination. The Clerk said it was for the purpose of eliciting information for the benefit of the Court. The bankrupt was then allowed to stand down. The Clerk said they would now proceed to the election of a chairman. Mr Pyle proposed—" that Mr Ewiag be Chairman." Carried. The cl.iims of several creditors, amounting to £486 15s were put in, duly sworn. Several creditors had not proved the assets, according to the statement filed, amounting to £1627. Dt-bts £SBO 12s 6d. Propo.-ied by Mr Pyle, seconded by Mr Towers—"that Mr Ewing be Trustee in the Estate." The propositon. was put by the Clerk of the Court, and (declared carried. The Trustee s?id he did not see that there Jwas any necessity to prolong the proceedings. It was a pitty that they had come so far to do so little. This concluded the business.
