MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
/ MONTHLY-SITTING. The monthly sitting of the Foxton Magistrate’s Court was held in the Courthouse yesterday, and was presided over by Mr J. L. Stout, S.M. P. J. Barry, licensee of Whyte’s Hotel, Avas convicted and fined £3 with costs 10/- for selling liquor after hours. Four first offenders charged with being illegally on the licensed premises, Avere each fined £2with costs 10/-. Two in respect of the Post Office Hotel and one in respect of the Family Hotel were similarly eon\ 7 icted and fined. Judgment was given for plaintiff in the following civil undefended cases: —
Foxton !Co-op. (Mr Bergin) v. S. Graham, claim £2 6/2, costs £1 10/6; H. A. Hannay (Mr Bergin) v. T. -Kimura, £1 7/6, costs 15/-; R. N. Sipeirs' (M. Bergin) v. V. P. Burr, £ll 10/8, costs £2 14/-. 08. Bell Avas charged Avith failing to comply with a maintenance order. (
Mr M. B. Bergin, who appeared for complainant said that Bell had been ordered to pay 10/- a Aveek but after the court sitting he had gone to the mother of complainant and become abusive, stating that he could not pay more than Y/6 per Aveek. He Avas £2O 2/- in arrears as at June 2nd. Bell Avas sentenced to v two months’ iriiprisonment with hard labour, Avarrant to be suspended as long as he complies Avith the order and pays 5/- per week off the arrears together Avith costs £1 6/-. .
