THE HEMP MARKET.
OCTOBER GRADING . RETURNS. The grading returns for hemp and tow (nil return for stripper tow and stripper slips) for the month of October have been issued by the Department of Agriculture
Wellington, and 90 at the Bluff were rejected. 1 Two bales at Auckland and 10 at the Bluff were condemned. The number of bales in each grade was as follows, the number for the corresponding period last year being given in parenthesis: — Good Fair 8 (309); High Fair 559 (7.75) ; Low Fair 281 (277) ; Common 413 (448); Rejected 131 (92); 'Condemned 12 (56); a total of 1404 bales as against 1957 bales graded the same period last year, a decrease of 553 bales. The number of bales graded at each poi’t was as follows: —Auckland 202, Wellington 771,, Bluff 431. The following shows the detailed particulars of tow graded:—
Two bales at Auckland were condemned. The following show’s the number of bales in each grade, the number for the corresponding period last year being given in parenthesis: Ist grade ,240 (169), 2nd grade 63 (144), 3rd grade 35 (58), condemned 2 (24), a total of 340 bales as against 395 bales graded the same period last year, a decrease of 55 bales. The number of bales graded at each port was Auckland 15, Wellington 259, Bluff 66.
