ALL SAINTS’ CHURCH ANNIVERSARY.

ANNUAL BIRTHDAY 'CELEBRATIONS.

All Saints’ Church “birthday” fell yesterday when the 58th anniversary of the church was celebrated.

At 4.30 p.m. some seventy children attended the church service and listened attentatively to the interesting address given by the Rev. H. S. Kenney. At the conclusion of the service the children adjourned to the schoolroom where . tables, laden with a bounteous repast, presented an attractive sight. The children did full justice to the delicious tea provided for them, a feature of which was a, handsome two-tiered cake decorated with 58 candles which was presented by Mrs F. S. Easton. The children all participated in the lighting of the candles and when the lights were extinguished the cake .was cut and .distributed by. tlie teachers. During the tea, birthday greetings were broadcast from Station 2YA Wellington, much to the delight of the children who were keenly anticipating the call. Rev. Kenney, in a short speech, welcomed all present, and expressed his thanks to all who had assisted in any way in making the party a success. He proposed a special vote of thanks' to Mrs F. S. Easton, for the generous donation of the birthday cake.

Mrs C. H. Symons (superintendent of the Sunday School) expressed her pleasure at seeing so many children present and said she was glad that the Oroua Downs Sunday School pupils had found it possible to attend. She had feared that the question of conveyance would prevent the Oroua Downs children from visiting Foxton but it was gratifying to find that this matter had been satisfactorily arranged. Mr E. Field, on behalf of his Oroua Downs pupils, thanlked the Foxton people f o r their invitation. He said it gave the children an opportunity of attending a church in town, this being a chance which did not often present itself to many of them.

After tea outdoor games were enjoyed by the children after which everyone congregated in the schoolroom where a pleasant time was spent, dancing interspersed .with items being the order of the programme.

The music for the dancing was supplied by Mr T. East and J. Veale.

Items were contributed by the following children: —-Songs: Ross East, Jean Veale (Oroua Downs). Spring song by the senior pupils; Sea Shanty by the Oroua Downs girls, the accompaniments being played by Jean Veale. Recitations, Bob Shorthouse; Ross Smith. Two dancesj one by the senior girls, and “The Dance of Greeting” by the junior girls, were charmingly executed.

At the conclusion of the programme supper was served to the children who then stood at attention while the playing of the National Anthem brought to a close a most enjoyable gathering.
