FOXTON DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL

; JUVENILE BALL. There was a sound of revellery in the spacious hall to greet those who were present on the occasion of the juvenile plain and fancy dress ball which was organised by the members of the Foxton District High School Committee and teaching staff and was held in the Town Hall on Tuesday evening. Beneath a canopy of .fluttering streamers a gay party of children thoroughly enjoyed the best of bright dances, their many picturesque and novel costumes lending,an air of festivity to the scene. The Grand March was held at 7.30 p.m. and presented a charming spectacle. The judging of the fancy costumes was carried out by Me.sdames M. Perreau, R. Hornblow, D. Ogilvy, and 'Collett, who were presented with a difficult task. The awards were finally decided, however, as follows: —Most original dress: (Please Keep off the Grass) E. During the evening the programme was composed of dancing interspersed with folk dances by the children. These were very well executed and were as follows: —“See the Little Hands,” by the infants; “Bohemian Dance,” by the infants; “Dance of Greeting,” Standards 1 and 2; “Helston Furry,”; “Rufty, Tufty,” Standards 3 and. 4; “Gathering Peascods,” Forms 1 and 2. The musical accompaniments for these item's were supplied by the teachers, Miss P. Booth and Messrs Edwards and Smith. Mr Robbie proved to be a most efficient M.C. for this part of the programme. At. 9.30 p.m. the children were entertained at a bounteous supper and the adults took the floor. Mr M. E. Perreau capably carried out the duties of M.C. and the .excellent music supplied by Larkin’s orchestra made the hours pass on flying feet. During the dance a greatly appreciated item was a song by Mr Gregg, entitled “Po Karekare,” and as an encore Mr Gregg delighted his audience with an excellent rendering of “Mother Macree.” The musical accompaniment was supplied by Mr Larkins and extra dance numbers were played by Messrs J. Newton and T. East.

A delicious home-made supper was provided for the adults and after supper dancing was resumed and continued until a late hour. The successful and smloothlyfunctioning arrangements of the supper was due to the indefatigable efforts of Mesdames F. A. Mason", R. A. Robbie, H. J. Reid, F. Robinson, A. E. Collins, G. Mounsev, L. McCarthy, S. E. Cbwley, M. A. Ross, G. F. Smith, and Mr F. Robinson. Special praise is due to Mrs M. A. Ross for her untiring efforts in connection with the dance and supper arrangements, and the committee thoroughly appreciates her wonderful organising work.

The committee desires to thank the following, wlio kindly donated prizes: The C. M. Ross Co., Mr G. F. Smith, Mrs ,T. Walls, Mrs R. O. Hornblow, Mrs D. R. Ogilvy; Mrs M. A. Ross and others. The committee also wishes to thank the public of Foxton for its
