BOWLING.
XYE FERNS CHANGE HANDS. Yesterday was an ideal day for bowling, and there was a good attendance at the local green. The main attraction was a game for the Nye Ferns between the holders. Hinds’ rink, and a team skipped by Mattar. The match for the Kinnebcrg Feathers did not eventuate owing to the inability of the Shannon .team to pay the proposed visit. The Nye Ferns game was closely contested towards the finish, the decision being uncertain until the filial head. Mattar hopped off well at the commencement, scoring for the first four heads and thus gaining nine points to Hinds’ nil. Hinds, however, then had a look-in, counting a brace on the next, and a “sixer” on the seventh end, which made the scores 10 —8 in Mattar s favour. By the time the thirteenth head had been played, however, Hinds had a lead of five points 16-11, and he was still ahead of Mattar on the sixteenth, by the same margin, 19 —14. From then on, however, the holders never scored a point, while the challengers added a total of ten, the final figures being Mattar 24, Hinds 19. The rinks were: —Challengers: J. Francis, A. Walls, Jno. Ross, FI. Mattar (s) 24. Holders: P. -J. Mairs, Ernera, Robinson, Hinds (s) 19.
