CYCLE TRACK TO SEASIDE
CONSIDERED IMPOSSIBLE BY HARBOUR BOARD. The Foxton Harbour Board considers the Foxton Chamber of Commerce suggestion of a cycle track to the seaside impossible. At yesterday’s meeting a letter was read from the Chamber congratulating the Board on its efforts to have the Foxton-Beach road tar sealed and as that proposal had not met with success, suggesting that the Manawatu County Council be asked to construct a cycle track, nob necessarily bitumen, to the Beach. “Great Scott! How do they expect that to be done?” ejaculated the Chairman (Mr J. A. Nash) when the letter was read. Mr W. E. Barber: I move that we send the letter on to the Main Highways Board. Mr Ross: Well some improvement is necessary. The road wants grading up a bit. Mr. Barber: It’s graded up all right. Mr Osborne said that it would be quite a simple matter to construct a track for bikes in certain places along the road—along the flats —and this would be a big help to those patronising the road. Mr. Nash: The track would soon be cut up by horse traffic. Mr. Barber: It would be a good place for a gallop. I move the letter be “received.” The Chairman: We can hardly “receive” it. We should express our appreciation of the suggestion at ■. least. It was decided to advise the Chamber that the matter was under consideration.
