WOMEN’S INSTITUTE DRAMATIC CLUB

FAREWELL TO MISS JEAN STEVENSON.

Last evening members of the Women’s Institute Dramatic '"Club met at the residence of Mrs D. R. Barron, Robinson Street, for the purpose of fartwelling Mss Jean Stevenson, who is leaving the district shortly. A most enjoyable evening was spent, members rehearsing two plays and indulging in musical items. A delicious supper was dispensed by the hostess, after which Mrs D. R. Barron, President of the Dramatic Circle, called on Miss Stevenson to accept a small token of appreciation from the members of the club. Mrs Barron spoke of Miss Stevenson’s work in connection with the dramatic club, of which she is a prominent member. She wag always willing to assist in any way and could adapt herself to any part. She was more fortunate than most of the other members in that she had received excellent training and Mrs Barron expressed the opinion of the club when she said how much Miss Stevenson would be missed.

Miss Stevenson, in a feeling speech, acknowledged the gift and said that she was glad that in the future she would not be competing against the Foxton Dramatic Club which is in the Northern Wellington district, for the district she was going to was .the Bush (Wairarapa).

Mrs C. Symons (President of the Anglican Ladies’ Guild) also said how much Miss Stevenson’s work had been appreciated and the Anglican Guild, for which Miss Stevenson had worked from time to time, would miss such a talented performer. Musical honours were then accorded the guest of the evening. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs Titcombe (President of the Women’s Institute), Mrs A. P. Easton (Dramatic Convenor), Mrs R. Byne, and Misses D. Pillar and N, Woods.
