Some striking differences in the incidence of motoring offences it,i the four main centres are disclosed in the statistics of the Justice Department for the year 1933.

Taking the record of Court convictions, there were ,ISS in. Auckland for excessive speeding, 187 in Wellington, 100 in Christchurch, but only 17 in Dunedin. Similarly there were 42G convictions for negligent or dangerous driving in Auckland, 279 in Wellington, 391 in Christchurch and only 89 in Dunedin.

Tn the matter, however, of unlawful conversion of cars, Dunedin easily leads the way with a total of 71 convictions. Auckland had 53, Wellington 28, and Christchurch 47. For breaches of lighting regulations, Christchurch showed a most marked pre-eminence. Against 991 convictions of this nature recorded there, Auckland had 30S, Wellington 170, and Dunedin 142. Registration offences were fairly evenly distributed among the four centres, but Dunedin had easily the best record in the matter of parking offences. Its total was 4fi, compared with 254 in Auckland, 187 'in Wellington and 100 in Christchurch. Auckland had 38 convictions for drunkenness in charge of a motor vehicle, Wellington 24, Christchurch 22 and Dunedin 24.
