OUR OLDEST BUSINESS MAN.
WHO IS HE? In the “free for all” competition, to ascertain who is to claim the honour of being the longest in continuous business in Foxton, names have been submitted, but definite dales are still wanting in several eases.
Mr H. Hamer writes: “I contend that Mr J. Walls has been in Foxton longest. In ease of this being Ihe winning solution, please hand the prize to the secretary of the Bov Scouts.”
Mr W. Hamer writes: “I came to Foxton in May, 1891, taking over the chemist business from Mr R. Leary, then situated in Thynne’s Buildings, and I have been in business ever since.” He also requested that if successful. the prize should go to the Boy Scouts. Mr TT. Bradcock submits names as follows: “My pick is: Mr A. R. Osborne, tailor, 1; Mr John Walls, baker, 2; Mr W. Hamer, chemist, 3; Mr “Tom" Betty, bootmaker, 4; all in business over 40 years.” Something more definite is required as to actual dates before anv decision can lie made.
