ROAD MOTOR SERVICES.
RAILWAYS BOARD POLICY. The policy of the Government Railways Board in connection with the taking over of road motor services was sought by Mr A. E. Ansell (Govt., Chalmers), when the estimates of the Railway Department were under consideration by the House of Representatiyes yesterday. Mr Ansell said the department had recently taken over the service between Wellington -and Wanganui. He, had no objection to that, but thought the House was entitled) to some explanation of the Government’s policy so far as road services were concerned.
The Prime Minister, Rt, Hon. G. W. Forbes, said that when the department had an opportunity to extend transport services to the advantage of the public it would accept the responsibility. In the case of the Wellington-Wanganui service the department felt it could perform a public service by taking it over.
