MOA SKELETON FOUND.
UNEARTHED IN, CLAY BANK,
Workmen engaged on road construction on Ngakaroa Road, near Ormond, this week unearthed what appears to have been a complete skeleton of a moa, says a Gisborne message. Unfortunately the importance of the discovery was not realised, and the bones were soon distributed in many directions. Judging by the number of bones in the deposit, it is assumed that a complete skeleton had been present, as portions recovered extended from skull to toes. One interesting feature was the quantity of small pebbles, about a double handful in all, which had undoubtedly come from the crop of the bird, as they were in a compact group adjacent. to the bones of the neck. The discovery was made in a bank of papa clay, the formation of which suggested at one time the existence of a cave which had fallen in.
