DORCAS SOCIETY.

A committee meeting was held yesterday afternoon, there being present: Rev. W. 11. Walton (in the chair), Mesdames F. Robinson, Walton, Nicholas, Christie, A. Ross, Moore, and Mr. Nicholas. Apologies for absence were received from Rev. and Mrs. Edmondson and Miss Williams.

During the month, parcels of clothing had been received from Mesdames F. Robinson, Chrystall, Mason, Tyer and Walton. Several cases of necessity had been helped with clothing. ' Letters of appreciation in connection with the Society’s work in organising a daily supply of hot soup to school children, were read and the following letter was received from the headmaster (Mr. F. A. Mason): —“On behalf of the staff of the District High School, I wish to express to the members of your Society our heartiest appreciation of the arrangements made for the daily provision of hot soup for some 50 odd pupils during the winter term just ended. The organisation has been carried through without a single hitch during the whole period, and I wish to pay a tribute to yourself, as secretary, for the excellent manner in which you organised the effort, to the clergy, who so willingly undertook the daily delivery on time at the school, and also to those kind citizens who co-operated with the Society in an effort which has proved of real and material benefit to so many of our children. Every member of the staff joins with me in commending whole-heartedly the splendid work so excellently carried through, for we, above all others, realise and know the true value of the effort.”

Opportunity was taken to thank the following ladies who provided the soup:—Mesdames Walton, F. Robinson, Edmondson, Christie, Nicholas, Mason, Trueman, Moore, M. J. T. Walker, A. Ross, Cowley, Jackson, Tyer, G. Huntley, Poole, John Robinson, Sutton, Perreau, Signal, L. Bullard, Honore, Hornblow, A. S. Easton, Sid Easton, Chrystall, Warwick, Jas. Robinson, Speirs, C. E. Robinson, Bett, S. Austin, Roore; Misses Ross, Speirs, and Williams. Also Mr. Fletcher for forwarding vegetables. The Society would be glad of parcels of clothing especially of children’s clothing and boots or shoes. Very little children’s wear has been received, not nearly sufficient to help necessary cases, for the demand for children’s boots and clothes is greater than the demand for adult’s garments.
