ALTERING A TELEGRAM,
Auckland, Oct. IS.
At the Supreme Court to-day, Boyd Stewart, telegraphist, was charged .with false pretences by having altered the name of a horse in a betting telegram in the course of transmission. On a favourable report hy the probation officer, Mr Justice Stringer admitted the accused to probation for two years, on condition that his amusements and employment shall be subject to the probation officer's approval, and also that he does not gamble or enter a racecourse, and that he pay £l3 costs.
Sani; Karaka, who robbed a mail bag while employed as a postal carrier at AVhakalane, was ordered to undergo reformative treatment for live years, concurrent with a sentence of two years’ reformative treatment previously imposed for theft.
