SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The ordinary meeting of the Foxton School Committee was held last night. Present: Messrs Hornblow (chairman), Hussey, Chrystall, Thompson, and Woods. The Chairman welcomed Mr T. Mitchell as a member of the,Committee, to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of Mr KentJohnston, The Chairman’s action in connection with certain work carried out at the teacher’s residence and tennis court was endorsed. The head-teacher’s report was read and received. The report stated that the average attendances for the past four weeks were 362-9, 361-1,368-6, 359-5; the average for the whole period was 363, out of an average roll number of 354, working out at 94 per cent, for the whole school. The annual inspection was conducted on November 26th. by Inspectors Strong and Stewart. The proficiency examination took place on November 30th and December Ist. Certain minor repairs required attention. The Inspectors’ report was read and discussed at length. The visitors’ report was read and received. It was decided to leave the topdressing of the tennis court in the hands of Messrs Chrystall, Mitchell and the head-teacher. The treasurer’s statement disclosed a credit balance of ,£25 10s nd. Accounts amounting to ,£l6 13s nd were passed for payment. It was resolved to purchase prizes, four for each class, to be awarded for proficiency and progress, no child to receive more than one prize from the Committee. It was decided to have the gutters and tanks cleaned during the holidays. Messrs Mitchell and Woods were appointed visitors for the month.
