LOCATING ARTESIAN WATER.
The Rev. Mr Mason, who possesses the wonderful gift of locating the exact spot where aitesian water may be found, visited Foxton on Thursday last, at the request of the Foxton Borough Council. Accompanied by the Mayor and several councillors, he visited various localities in the borough, and successfully indicated where the water would be obtained by boring. Our representative had the pleasure of witnessing the rev. gentleman’s modus operandi, in the triangle, opposite the Herald office. The Rev. Mr Mason walked with arms slightly extended and downward a few paces, when suddenly the arms were jerked convulsively as the “finder” walked over the water area. He then took a stick and bent it slightly, bow uppermost, and when walking over the area the stick twisted down and broke in the centre. A piece of wire was tried and this clearly indicated by its movement the exact spot beneath which and deep below the surface, the precious liquid bubbled from some crevice. Pegs were driven in at the various spots located. The result of the visit will be discussed at the Council meeting on Tuesday next.
