Queen Margherita of Italy has withdrawn all her opposition to the Duke d’Abruzzi’s marriage to Miss E. A. Elkins, daughter of Senator Elkins, of the United States. Miss Elkins receives a dowry of Queen Margherita chiefly opposed the union on the ground that public opinion in Ametica insinuated that her nephew’s bid for the hand of Miss Elkins was dictated by greed for dollars.

Lonijon, November 2

The Archbishop of York will resign at tne end of the year, on the ground ot ill-health. He was born in 1826.

London, November 3.

Mr Birrel warned the Irish newspapers against publishing the League’s intimidatory resolutions. Advices from Shanghai show that 10,000 lamas of Tibet rebelled, and the Chinese were defeated. The Ambau (or Chinese rule) asks for reinforcements, and the Government at Pekin urges the Dalai Lama to return to Tibet. Calcutta, November 3.

Ten thousand poor were fed at Madras and Royal addresses made. There were many similar celebrations in all parts of India. John Stefanovitch Schilizzi, a Greek merchant, ot Austin Friars, left a personality of >£2,101,000. The death duties on the estate amount to £286,000.

The King has appointed Earl Desart plenipotentiary to the international naval conference opening in Loudon on December 1 to discuss the laws of maritime warfare. The conference is the outcome of the proposal of the Hague for the establishment ot of an International Prize Court.

The Chinese ascribe the Hongkong rioting to the manufacture of 10,000 lanterns iucribed “ China has been subdued,” and intended to be carried in a monster Japanese procession to mark the cessation of the Chinese boycott. St. Petersburg, November 3. Well informed people here assert that during the Boer war Germany tried hard to instigate Russia to make a demonstration in Central Asia.
