CORRESPONDENCE.

i advertisement.]

[TO THE EDITOR.]

Sir,— A statement appearing under the heading of a No-License advertisement in your last issue, tries to lead the public to believe that the only benefit that the town of Foxton derives from License is to the extent of £l6B.

From my licensed premises ALONE the Borough funds are benefited to the extent of

£9O aud from the other 3 licensed houses in; license fees alone the Borough gets

£l2O to say nothing of the Rates which I have not included. Surely this is more than

I am prepared to prove that I have circulated in this town among business people for One Year a sum exceeding £1,300 and if I include rent, insurance, aud the amount above named to the Borough funds the total is not far short of £2,000 PER YEAR. I have always made a point on the question of License or NoLicense to abstain from enteiing into any controversy, believing as I do that it should be left to the people to decide, without coercion, or attempt to mislead, but cannot allow a statement such as the one referred to go uncontradicted. The tied house magnate cannot answer the question for me, having no interest in my business. If necessary to prove the truth of my figures I will produce either receipted accounts, or my accounts with the business people with whom I have dealt with in Foxton can be perused. These are PLAIN HONEST FACTS. Bear in mind I am only One of Four Licensees, and if my figures are multiplied by that number it must be plain to all fair minded people that the Licensed Houses in Foxton are responsible for circulating quite as much money in the town as a good many business people not of our way ot thinking, and surely accounts for a very large portion of the sura named as being spent annually in liquor. Sir, I sign my name, W. J. WHITE, Licensee Whytes Hotel.
