On the motion of the Premier, further leave of absence for one week was granted to Sir George Grey, on account of ill. health. A week's leave of absence, on account of argent private business, was given to Mr Mitchelson." The Premier was appointed a member of the Native Affairs Committee in place of Mr Cadman. Mr Hamlin asked whether the Government would give effect to the report of the Native Affairs Committee, that certain fees paid on a private Bill— the Kaihau Trusts Bill— should be refunded to Henare Ngaroma Kaihau ?• • - . The Hon J. Carroll replied th>t the Government were not at present prepared to deal with the 'matter, It was diffioult to interfere with private Bill fees, which were devoted to 'the Library fund. However, the snbjeet would be considered. The motion was lost. Mr Fish, afterwards proposed the adjournment of the House, in order to speak concerning the Fernhill Railway, preferring charges against Sir Robert Stout to the effect that he was the real owner of the line through being mortgagee, and urging that he ought not to obtain a preferential advantage over other creditors with the assistahdS of ftfhfe I Government. Sir Robqrt Sfcout seconded the motion stating that when the Bill 1 comes up he should- moVe it go before a Compiitfcee of Opppsi^qnj members.
