Sandon Items.

The following is an extract from the annual report of the Sanson School Committee submitted to the meeting of householders on Monday last : — During the year Mr G. Grant, the head master, obtained six months leave to enable him to visit the Old Country. His place was efficiently filled by Mr W. S. Stewart, 8.A., now in charge of the Foxton School. Your Committee are under a heavy obligation to Mrs Stewart for the very successful entertainment organised by her for providing funds for purchase of prizes for the scholars at Christmas. The performance was enjoyed by young and old and netted the substantial sum of £18 5s 2d. The standard passes at this school at the examination in August last was equal to 92-3 per cent. The following are the new Committee : — C. L. Anderson, E. W. Bishop, James Bowater, A. Cockburn, J. Eisk, T. Sanson, and J. A. Bailey. A Mr Bruce is touring the Eangitikei and Manawatu districts endeavouring to get settlers to take shares in a proposed roller flour mill at Wellington. He has engaged the Sanson Public Hall for Wednesday evening, and hopes to induce all the wheat growers to " take up scrip," but as a ready market exists at Feilding and Palmerston for all the wheat grown around Sandon, his success is doubtful.
