Palmerston Hospital Board.

V'Thensual monthly meeting was held at Council Chambers on Thursday. Present— Messrs F. Y. Lethbridge (chairman), T. R, Taylor, R. B. McKerizie, D, Grant, W. Patjfj G. Nye, and W. G. The mere confirmation of the minutes would in no way render the proceedings legal. .Mr Taylor expressed the opinion that the action taken by the Board was perfectly legal, ;. Mr MoKen'zie regretted that at so small a meeting matters of so much importance were dealt with. With regard to notices of meetings, he pointed out the desirableness of sending them out in sufficient time to enable members living at long distances to be present. The illegalfcy, if therejtvas any, could be got over by ; a, resolution confirming what had been 'done at that meeting. ■■

Mr- Park thought the action of the Boat • was thorough] y in order, but if the proceedings were illegal, a re* solution might be passed confirming the action- of the members. He ob jected- to' the practice of members fcbsfefttitig themselves from meetings, and tfcifenr *at subsequent meetings

endeavouring to upset what had been done.

Mr Haybittle endorsed the remarks of Mr Park. They were only wasting time in discussing tne matter* and he proposed that the minutes be confirmed.

Mr Grant held that the proceedings at the meeting were illegal; and had. lie kno\Vn that a certain person wished to get a billet for his friend — had he been aware that an archi* tect was to have been appointed — he would have been present at the meeting. He warned the members of the Board against taking any action which would lead them into litigation".

Mr Haybittle objected to the re' mark made by Mr Grant that the members of the Board wished to give an appointment to certain friends. If not the whole of the members, the majority of the members Were perfectly independant of any architect in Palmerston or any other town, and in appointing the man they did} they were actuated . by no interested
