At a large meeting held in the City of influential bankers and merchants it was decided to form a brance of the Bi-metallic League, and it was further resolved to urge the Government to co-operate with them in establishing an international agreement for an unrestricted gold and silver coinage. The value of the imports of the United Kingdom last month showed an increase of £1,400,000, while the exports decreased £2,000,000. Wool continues to harden. Prices are now equal to the best rates obtained at the February series, and occasionally they have been a trifle higher. The rise is due to an improvement in the demand from the Continent, especially France. Replying to a question in the House of Commons, Sir Richard Webster, Attorney-General, said that Deeming would only be brought to England to stand his trial for the Rainhill murders in the event of his being acquitted for the Windsor murder. Tne directors of the Cambrian Railway Company, appeared before the Bar of the House of Commons, to explain their action in dismissing some of their employe's who had given evidence before a Select Committee of the House. They stated that it was not their intention to prevent their servants giving evidence, and offered to make the fullest apology for the dismissals. Sir M. Hicks Beach moved that the directors be reproved for their action, and Mr Gladstone spoke in support of the motion. The Radical members thought the motion did not go far enough, an:l demanded that the employe's who had been dismissed should either be reinstated in their old positions or be paid compensation. After a. long and exciting debate, Sir M. Hicks-Beach's motion was carried by 349 to 70. The Times, referring to the matter, advises the directors to pay the men compensation.
