THE WATERLEA CAUSE

CONTINUATION OF PROGRAMME

Many big things have small beginnings, and the "Scarlet Runners" furnish a case/ iii point. This ministrel troupe has occasionally assisted the musical programme at country functions during the past six months, and having gained in strength and quality it will make its local debut in His Majesty's Theatre to-night in the interests of "Waterlea Fortnight." The .cause needs no commendation here, and when it :s remembered that the "Runners" will be associated with the. Returned Soldiers' Orchestra and a programme of Fullers' pictures, the .attractive^ ness of the entertainment is at once apparent. The Tenth M.R. Band will give a musical preliminary by means of selections outside the theatre.

Those who like to take advantage of the sale of home-made cooking and produce would do well to patronise ''Waterlea Shop" tomorrow. The, ladies of High Street and Maxwell Road districts will be rendering Waterlea service during the day., Those who intend to mix in the gay .throng at the "Waterlea Ball" on Friday night are reminded that masks will be worn during the first half of the dancing programme. This function promises to be an outstanding success, but in the meantime the promoters would be glad to hear of more supper contributions. Again, do what you can!

'.'Waterlea Shop" will be in charge of the Springlands and Famham ladies' committee on Saturday. Nq doubt the thought of local sporting enthusiasts on Saturday afternoon will be .on the Seddon Shield match at Westport, but the Waterlea Executive has arranged a programme of sporting attractions which should engage their attention. The Domain will be the scene of a representative hockey match between the ladies of Nelson paid Marlborough, a junior Rugby match, and the running contests for the primary schools championships and the Griffiths Cup.
