CORRESPONDENCE

STREET ACCIDENTS.

fTO THB EDITOR.]

Sir, —As/ • this week adds another 'j street accident 1o the long list, I < would like to give you juat three of ] j my experiences. One morning just - afW 8 o'clock I was cycling in A Market Place. -There were only r. three children cycling. I had tlio , greatest difficulty in avoiding a col- ■ 3 lision with each, singly. On© Sialtur- ! 1 day at mid-day I was cycling past the ;.' Bank of New Sautlt Wales towards ■{ Market Place. Another cyclist, was j. going in the same direction, close to :. the path. I was six feet firom him, °{ parallel, with him when a woman i turned out of Charles Street and ■* cycled between us. Of corarsc, she j was on the wrong side. A few days , later I was driving from town, and < when opposite the Catholic Church I , thought 1 muist bs dreaming; but no, what I saw was true— a motor-car . copiing for mo on the wrong side. It ~ was well into the kerb, sci I pulled ;'< to the middle of the road and looked •«•< to see who was driving. It- was a I woman, with three other' passengers. . Away they went, and I looked back . and saw them disappear from view, still on the wrong sido;, close to the p path. No wonder accidents are so ;•!, irequent. Surely tihe time has ar- ;/ rived for every motor-car driver to be {■, compelled to pass a proficiency test * and liold a certificate before being 5 allowed to drive. Also, children 1 should be taught th.3 rules of the road ; at school, instead of teaching them swinging. DANGER>
