Mr Mac Donald, Leader of the Opposition, "would have opened the Financial Debate; but his health, never tl oroughly established since his accident last session, has beconle worse, owing to a severe cold. Therefore he has had to" give up the idea, of speaking, and to-day was granted 14 days' leave of absence on accourit of ill-health.: ■ ■ .
Mr T. Wilford (Hutt) appeared to be exercising the functions of Leader of the Opposition at to-day's sitting. The party' will meet to-morrow to discuss arrangements for the session and the temporary leadership.
