The risk of fir© deters mony farmers from planting-out trees on an extensive scale. Sir David Hutcfcens, an experf'imported by the N.Z. Government, says: "The risk of fire in a plantation where proper precautions are taken is no greater than of a house in a town vfliere there is a fir» brigade.'' A lending fire insurance office, recognising this fact, has ' agreed to insure plantations on the lines submitted by owners, viz., theactual cost of planting., etc., plus compound interes^, upkeep, and rent, the prospective value to bo at the-, risk of owners.
