COAL PRODUCTION
STATEMENT BY PRIME
MINISTER,
[Pkess Association. (
WELLINGTON, ; June 2. Mr Massey, *who is Minister in Ch/.rgo of the Local Trade Regulations, has issued a tabulated statement showing that since 1914, when the production of coal was normal, the Dominion has lost through decreased output and importations a total of 595,754 tons. This decrease, together with increased consumption by the railways and other large industries, makes it impossible to increase the allocation of coal for household p.m*poses. The position is being carefully watched by the Coal Control Department, and the Coal Trade Committees in the four centres are doing their best to secure a just allocation of all coal arriving in their districts.
