The quest-ion of increasing the wharfage rates will be gone into fully at .a special meeting of the Harbor Bonrd to be held on Friday next. The present rates have been in force practically since tho Board was constituted, and) require revising badly. 1 The Home Mission tea. held ml the Library on Saturday night was a groat success in spite of the boisterous weather prevailing, and a siiunptpoTis tea was provided by Mrs W. The Harbor Board) are at present considering the question, of taking steps to deepen clio channel, which is at present in a very unsatisfactory condiition, and can bo worked only hv very small launches ait low tide. T'ho s.s. Blraihern, on her last trip, got stranded in the mud at full tide and did not get away until the next tide. This proves that the channel is rapidly silting up, and requires deepening. A meet in? of tho HavelocJc looxball Club is bearig called for next woek. Great enthusiasm is being displayed throughout tho district in football matters this year, owing no jdoubt to the generous action of Mr Stopp in presenting a. beautiful silver cup for competition between toams from Havolook, Canvastown, Carluke, Tua Marina, and Mahakipnwa.. The football dance held) in Carluke on Friday was a great success in snito of tho ,stormy night, and the r-lub's funds benefited materially by the proceeds.
