AN OPTIMISTIC STATEMENT.

SECOND DIVSION MAY NOT BE

NEEDED

[FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT.!

WELLINGTON, Sept. 27

"I don't suppose any Second Division man will go into camp before the end of January; I hope not before February," said Sir James Allen to the Second Division League deputation to-night. "If they go into camp in February they will not leave New Zealand ufitil June, reaching England in August. Ido not know what you think, gentlemen, but I have a firm conviction that by the end of June we shall know who is going to win this war. I have a firm hope that we shall never have to send from New Zealand more than the first class of the Second Division. I hope we shall not have to send even them."
