WAIRAU HARBOR BOARD
Tho monthly meeting of the Wairau ' Harbor Board was held last night. There were present: Messrs h. Griffiths, J. h. Homes, T Pike, T. S. Davies, J. Ward, J. J. Corry, W. Carr, and G. S, Eckford. Mr Griffiths was unanimously elected chairman for the: enduing year. >) - Harbormaster^ .Report, r;
Captain "I. M; 7 Earr; the harbor- J master, reported that on seven .days of last month there were moderate to strong south-east gales, with accompanying heavy seas. Ihiring the remainder ,of June light to moderate -westerly winds and seas prevailed. During" four of the seven days men r tiqned a heavy sea was rolling m, causing the bar to be dangerous to work On the 14th he sounded, and, although there had been four days of lieavy seas, the -channel was unaltered, the last depth being 9ft. 6in.; yin the line of beacons at the northwest end of the spit. There were 14 , arrivals and 15 departures during the month. GENERAL. It was resolved to apply to the Defence Department for permission to fly the blue ensign on certain occasions. Having, considered an application from that officer for an increase in salary, it was resolved tliat the Harbormaster (Captain Ban*) be al-\-lowed a of £2 Is 8d month from Juty Ist for the duratmii of fhe ■war. A comin'ittee consisting of Messrs Gamble, Homes, and Ward was appointed to confer with tbe Govemnnent Re^iclent Engmeer and arrange for the filling-in of the training wall up to hi^h-waier mark at the earliest opportunity ' Accounts amounting to £306 were passed for payment, .
