A.M.P. SOCIETY
To-day is the forty-sixth anniversary of the opening of the New Zealand branch of this Society, and marks, also, the issue of its bonus certificates for the year 1916. About 50,000 of these reminders were distributed throughout the Dominion this morning. Tbe cash bonus divided on this occasion amounts to £857,178,■ and will provide reversionary bonuses quite equal to those for the year 1915, although the death claims due to thi* war were much heavier than in that year. \
Some idea of" the- growth of the Society may be gained from the fact 'hat in the year 1871, when the New Zealand branch opened, the new business throusrhout Australia and New Zealand totalled £830,904, whilst in_ 1.916 the new business written in New Zealand alone amounted to £1,451 : 804 in the • Ordinary Department and £.193,136 in the Industrial Department, which, taken "ogether. represents an assurance of about £1 12s per head of the total population of the Dominion.
In 1871 New Zealand had 1045 policies assuring £496,790; in 1916 there we_*> 51,158 nolicies in force, assuring £15,499,849, in the Ordinary Depaitment ,uid 27.707 policies, assuring £1,070,735, in the Industrial Department
The annual premium income for the New. Zealand branch at its esrß^ 1-^?? 611* on lst Jul.v, 1871, was j_l/,J89. At the 31st December last tiie total annual income derived trom premiums and investments, in New Zealand exceeded £1,000,000.'
