During April 20 and 2L an attempt was made to land arms and .annumiition in .Ireland from a vessel umier the guise of a merchantman, l<ut which was in. reality a • German auxiliary cruiser, accompanied by a submarine. ■■-.'• , ■• The auxiliary ■ cruiser.. was sunk, and a number of prisoners were, taken, including Sir Roger Casement. Casement was /dubbed Ktiiglit in 1911, He. was British Consul at Lorenzo Marques in 1895, Consul in the Gaboon and Consul to the Congo Free State in 1898-1905. He was appointed Consul-General to Haiti and San Domingo in 1907, but did not take up the duties. He was Consul-General at Rio de Janeiro from 1909 to 1913.]
