In a jH'ivionai explanation, he -said i thai- he found himselt -at complete variance with the Cabinet on^ questions concerning the Near "Eastern policy, and ielt, there fore, that las presence in tho Cabinet was a .source of weakness, flisul not of strength. He emphasised tho t't'.et- that there had bren ab^ulutaly no personal disagreomeiii. and. no party questions ■Were involved. 'Every member of tlh* Cabinet Juftl only one idea-—that of ' carrying the war at ail sacrifices to:; fiiToi juitl conclusive issue. ln<* ntkinnylcdgeil the £i-e:>.-t difficulties of co-ordinati'ig our policy with that of our Allies, and, also consulting the ■.•sentiments' of neutrals. In his opinio-i the situation necessitated a. clearly•defmed, well-thought-out policy ; i-aid, finding himself ii'n:ible to agree in any respect with the Government's policy, he felt that hi;; presence was no longer useful. This did notsuggest. that his views wore comparable with those of 'greater exporienrt> and wisdom, but he hold them strongly, -conscientiously, -and patriotically. • (Cheers.)
