THE NATIONAL RESERVE.

HAVELOCK UNIT.

Our Ha-velock correspondent-writes: —A meeting of the Havelock unit of the National Reserve was held on Wednesday in the'Public..Library for the purpose of electing,^officers. Prior to dealing with the business' oi the meeting a parade was held by Sergeant-Major Williams, 30 members being present, all of whom acquitted themselves fairly well, and showed that they had profited by N tbe instruction of Mr V. Powell.

After parade the business of the meeting proceeded in the library. Mr W. H. Smith was in the chair. MiMatthews (secretary) read correspondence showing that the officers lequired were one .lieutenant,, one platoon sergeant, two sergeants, and two corporals. There were 57 names on, the roll.

The chairman, then called for nominations for lieutenant.

Mr Matthews proposed Mr E. H. Smith, who, he said, had shown himself very enthusiastic over the movement, and in addition had served in Africa during the Boer War. Mr F. Gorrie seconded, and Mr J D. Gorrie and Mr Orsman spoke in support of the nomination. " There being no other nomination for the office, Mr E. H. Smith was declared duly elected. The following were nominated for the position of platoon sergeant: Messrs E. W. Tabor, J. D. Gorrie, I. Mathieson. Rarrowclough, and Orsman. Mr Mathiesoti"being elected. There were eleven ' nominations for the two positions of sergeant, and Messrs Barrowclough. ;md J. D. Gorrie were, elected." Ten nominations for the two .corporals required ended in the positions being filled by Messrs W. H. Marriott iind A. H.

Scott. It was decided that a church parade be., held on Sunday next; the members to fall in at the Town Hall at. 1.30 p.m. and be on the recreation ground at 2 p.m.,-should-the weather be favorable. If otherwise the parade will be held .in the Town Hall. As there are nvo Wednesdays ia June and this caused an interval ot three weeks before the.next regular parade could be held, it was decided i<t hold a parade -next Wednesday week (30th inst.), arid thereafter the parades to go on on the days previously decided on. A call of Is per TKemVcr was made to defray cost of stationery a.nd stamps.
