INTERFERING WITH AN ELECTOR.
HOTEL-KEEPER FINED
AUCKLAND, Jan. 15. Harold R. Simpson, licensee of tlie Alexandria Hotel, was charged before Mr Chillen, S.M., with interfering with an elector on polling day. It appears that the accused volunteered information to an old woman whom he brought to the polling booth that she would gjt two voting papers and she was to strike out the bottom lino on both. The defendant did not ap- • pear. I His Worship, said that had the evi-r dence gone in the direction that the '< defendant was making a practice of ; this he would have imposed a heavy penalty. As it was he would he fined £2 and 31s costs. ' ; ,;-.
