NOTES.
Messrs H. J. Jenkins, of Ward, aaid James O'Dwyer, of Seddon, left Blenheim for Trentham this afternoon to ,ioin the relieving force which will shortly proceed to Samoa. A meeting of the Dunedin division of the British Medical Association was held last night,' when a circular was received from the New Zealand Coxincil of the Association soliciting support for a movement to erect a base military hospital at Trentham. Resolutions' to the following effect were carried:—(l) That in the opinion of the -Otago division the respective spheres of private benevolence and State responsibility with regardl to fche war should be clearly defined; (2) that the whole of th« expense of sending the contingents to the war and returning should be borne by the State; (3) that no * private subscriptions should be raised or used for >ny purpose to which the whole Dominion is pledged; (4) and that both, the motorambulance and hospital scheme fall within the duties of the State.
