LOWER WAIRAU RIVER BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Lower Wairau River Board was held on Tuesday night. There were .present: Messrs A. McCallum (chairman), E. S. Parker, 11. J. Bell, and W. Carr. The question of adding a span to the eastern High Street Bridge was held over till next meeting. The, striking -of the rate . was deferred pending the receipt of the Board's portion of the borough valuation r011... Mr Binley, caretaker of the municipal weighbridge, wrote" asking for a leas© of about three chains of the river frontage near the Omaka railway bridge.—lt Avas decided to reply that the Board had no power to comply Avith the request. The Town Clerk wrote intimating that it Avas the intention of the Council to lay doAvn a oovered-in1 drain from Dillon's Point through A. .W. King's property into 'the OpaAva River, and asked for permission to penetrate the Board's banking. —The action of the chairman in granting permission Avas approved, on the understanding that the Avork Avould be carried out under the supervision of the Inspector. The details of the scheme of treeplanting in the Taylor Valley Avere left in the hand of Mr Caw. Accounts Avere passed for payment. The Board Avont into committee and discussed its river-conservation system !in the light of recent events.
