WESLEY CHURCH.

ANNIVERSARY SERVICES-

_ The forty-ninth anniversary of Wesley Church, was held yesterday, the preacher for the day being the Rev. B F. Rothwell, tlie newlyappomted superintendent minister for Blenheim circuit. The congregations at both services were exceptionally good, the church being completely full in the evening. Tlie morning discourse, founded on Philippians 3, 14—"I press toward the mark of my high calling in Christ Jesus"—suggested a. motto for co-operation between minister and people in the pursuit of spiritual things to be found only "in Christ Jesus." The evening service was especially attractive, the large congregation entering heartily into it, and1 the* preacher ] spoke forcibly on the theme pro- • pounded by Pilate, "What shall I do | then with Jesus which is called tlie j Christ?" Reference was made to the ! insistence- of this question in every I act of the life of each one of us; | of the permeating character of the 1 work of the Saviour which has its t influence in every phase of thought ] and action; and of the necessity of I avoiding Pilate's attitude of attempt- \ mg to dismiss the question by hand- ; washing. The sermon strongly ap-; pealed to all those present", and ; marked a good beginning, of the: preacher's ministry. I The next anniversary will be the' jubilee of Methodism in this district, and! it is < anticipated that special interest will mark the occasion. ,'
