A Napier Press Association' telegram states that -the popularly Mr J. Vigor Brown, M.P., as Mayor was evidenced by the fact that every. Councillor signed his nomination paper for re-election.

Mr A. E. Brunette has,purchased from Mr W. Middleton his interest in a hotel at Opunake, tend will take his departure from Blenheim shortly. The hptel v:as destroyed *by fire recently, and is in the course c(f reconstruction. It will be interesting to the friends of Mr Brunette and Mr 3liddleton to recall ttSurt Ahe forme* acquired the tJrosvenor Hotel at Blenheim from the latter a few ysars ago. The death occurred in Wellington yesterday of Mr Edward Gascoigne, father of Mr W. E. Gascoigne, of "Blenheim, at the age of 66 years. The deceased gentleman, who resided with his son, "had hardly known a day's illrew until about a year ago, wlu'ii 'he tell a victim to cancer.
