AUCKLAND, June 20. The Nottingham Castle Hotel at Morfinsville was destroyed by fire this morning. A housemaid found her bedroom full of smoke at 6 a.m. The inmaties, including the boarders, barely had time to escape. The building was insured in the New Zealand office for £800 and the furniture in the Norwich office for £450. Mr Schoolum, owner of the hotel, estimates his loss over the insurances at £2000.

A fire broke out last night in the Beresford Street school, a wooden structure, and one of the largest schools in the city. The whole building was flooded and considerable damage was done, the exact amount of which is not yet known.

The damage done by the fire at Beresford Street public school is estimated at from £11,000 to £12,000.
